Our Story

Matembo Safaris was founded in 2020 by two passionate individuals: Dutch entrepreneur Marijn Tom and Tanzanian guide and entrepreneur George Okara. The journey of Matembo Safaris began when Marijn arrived in Tanzania as a volunteer working on local community projects. Inspired by the beauty and culture of Tanzania, Marijn returned home, but his heart stayed with Tanzania. He later returned with his parents and, during this trip, had the privilege of experiencing the breathtaking safaris of Tanzania. It was also the time when he met his girlfriend, who, like him, was captivated by the magic of Tanzania.

It was through these shared experiences, combined with George’s deep knowledge and love for the country, that the idea to create Matembo Safaris was born. Together, Marijn and George decided to combine their expertise, passion for travel, and love for Tanzania to offer tourists an unforgettable safari experience. And so, Matembo Safaris was established to offer a personal, professional, and unique way to explore Tanzania’s wilderness.
