Ruaha National Park is located in central Tanzania, and it’s one of the largest and most scenic parks in the country. It’s known for its diverse landscapes, including riverine forestssavannahs, and rolling hills. Ruaha is famous for its rich biodiversity, including large populations of elephantslionsleopards, and buffalo. It is also a sanctuary for endangered species like the wild dog. The park is not as crowded as other national parks, giving you a more secluded and intimate safari experience.

Day 1: Pickup from Iringa Town and Transfer to Ruaha National Park

Pick-up:

Your adventure begins with a morning pick-up from Iringa Town. A 4×4 safari vehicle will be waiting for you, and your experienced driver-guide will greet you for the journey to Ruaha National Park.

– Transfer to Ruaha:The drive from Iringa to Ruaha takes approximately 5 to 2 hours(around 130 km). You’ll pass through rural villages, open plains, and scenic landscapes. You’ll also begin to appreciate the rich flora and fauna that make Ruaha a prime safari destination.

– Arrival & Check-

– After arriving at the park, you’ll check into your lodge or campwithin or near the park’s boundaries. There are a range of options from luxury lodges to more rustic camps.

Lunch & Rest:

– You’ll enjoy a refreshing lunch at your accommodation. Afterward, you’ll have time to rest and enjoy the surroundings.

– Afternoon Game Drive:

In the late afternoon, you will head out on your first game drivein Ruaha National Park. Ruaha is known for its striking landscape, with a unique mixture of dry savannah, riverine forests, and woodlands. During the game drive, you’ll likely encounter large herds of elephants, along with giraffeszebras, and possibly the elusive leopard. The Great Ruaha River running through the park is a prime location for spotting hippos and crocodiles.

Overnight:

  • You’ll return to your accommodation for an overnight stay, ready for a full day of exploration the next day.

 

Day 2: Full Day Safari in Ruaha National Park

  • Morning Game Drive:
  • Wake up early for a thrilling morning game drivein the park. This is the best time to see predators such as lionscheetahs, and hyenas as they are most active during the cooler hours of the morning. You’ll also spot large herds of buffaloes and antelope, and, if you’re lucky, a sighting of wild dogs
    • Lunch in the Bush:
  • After several hours of game viewing, you will enjoy a picnic lunchin a scenic spot within the park, overlooking the majestic landscapes. This is a great opportunity to reflect on the morning’s sightings and relax.
    • Afternoon Game Drive:
  • In the afternoon, you’ll head out on another game drive, this time exploring different areas of Ruaha. You might visit the Mwagusi Riveror the Ruaha River, both known for providing great opportunities to see wildlife gather, especially during the dry season. Birdwatchers will appreciate the wide variety of species, including African fish eaglesvultures, and hornbills.
    • Overnight:
  • After an exciting day in the park, you’ll return to your lodge or camp for a well-deserved rest. Enjoy the evening at your accommodation, perhaps even having a drink while watching the sunset over the African savannah.

 

Day 3: Morning Safari and Return to Iringa

  • Early Morning Game Drive:
  • On your final morning in Ruaha, you’ll set out for one last early morning game drive. Early mornings offer great wildlife viewing opportunities, and this is your chance to catch any animals you may have missed the previous days, like leopardsor crocodiles sunbathing by the river.
    • Return to Lodge for Breakfast:
  • After the morning game drive, you’ll return to your lodge or camp for a leisurely breakfast. You can also take a moment to enjoy the views of the park and reflect on the unforgettable wildlife experiences you’ve had over the past two days.
    • Departure to Iringa:
  • After breakfast, you’ll start your drive back to Iringa, where you’ll arrive around late morning or early afternoon, depending on the pace of the game drives and breaks along the way. The journey back to Iringa will take around 5 to 2 hours.
